Artist Statement

My work is built from fragile situations. It often appears simple or precarious, sometimes almost unfinished. I am not interested in technical mastery or specialised knowledge.

Working across painting, drawing, video, and everyday objects, I use what is around me, keeping materials simple and exposed.

The pieces tend to hold a certain instability. Materials, gestures, and images combine a sense of rawness and subtlety.

Fragility is not only a theme, but also a condition of the work.

“Francisco Montoya Cázarez’s works are both personal and universal, private and
political. They tie the material with the spiritual, and refuse common sense in order
to reveal a stubborn, obstinate sense of things and to reclaim the poetry of the
banal, observing the every day from new perspectives.”
